Avira is still a clear winner.. to me
When my organization switch its antivirus policy from Avira to Trend Micro, i just wondering why for the business purpose reason, organisation willing to sacrifice its security as Avira is better than Trend Micro according to AV-Comparatives. And on AV-Comparatives's On-Demand Comparative, it shows several antivirus that has better detection rates than Avira, such as Qihoo, avast!, BitDefender, F-Secure, G DATA, Panda and Trustport.
So out of curiousity, i decided to test out several trial antivirus. My candidates are Avira Premium Security Suite 10, avast! Internet Security 6, G DATA NotebookSecurity 2012, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, Microsoft Security Essentials 2 and Trend Micro Client/Server Security Agent. Implanted 15 verified PUA files (some are zipped) by VirusTotal in various folders meant for testing purposes.
The results are as follows:
- Detected two PUA: Trend Micro.
- Detected three PUA: G Data.
- Detected three PUA: Microsoft.
- Detected four PUA: Kaspersky.
- Detected six PUA: avast!
- Detected eleven PUA: Avira
UPDATE on 18 Sep 2011: Tested two additional security tools under this post: Coranti and BKIS (BKAV Pro Internet Security), two overrated security tools by Virus Bulletin. Avira is still a better one than those two.
