Coranti and BKIS (BKAV Pro Internet Security), two overrated security tools by Virus Bulletin
While browsing some news, happen that i saw an antivirus comparison testing done by Virus Bulletin. The title is VB RAP test results. And surprise to me that three of the top five are unknown to me. The other two products (G Data and TrustPort) are pretty well-known, which i tried it before and admitted that the results are good although performance wise is pretty slow given multiple scanning engines that being used by both products.
The three of the top five that are unknown to me is BKIS, Coranti and BullGuard. Did some research on it and found out that BullGuard antivirus engine is licensed from BitDefender, thus should have similar detection rate. While Coranti has multiple antivirus engines licensed from BitDefender, F-Prot and Lavasoft, nobody seem to know which engine that BKIS licensed to. Very unlikely that BKIS can achieve such results by only counting on own engine as this product is developed by pretty young company based in Vietnam.
So decided to give a try to BKAV Pro 2011 Internet Security (BKIS) and Coranti 1.3.1. Normally, I'll always optimise the setting and use the highest possible scanning mechanism when doing the testing. Same case applied when i test out this two products. When doing the setting for BKIS, i realised that the scanning options are pretty similar to Kasperky and Avira. Suspected that it using either Kaspersky or Avira engine. When scanning using BKIS, it happen that it found a false positive and deleted it straightaway although i've turn off the auto cleanup function. Right away i stop the scanning as i don't know how many more false positive that going to be deleted by BKIS.
Afterward, i test out Coranti and the result is pretty dissapointed. From all detected 17 harmful files, only two are real PUA while the rest are false positives. Too much dissapointment from a product that boost quad scanning engines.
