NUS – ISS Master Of Technology Entrance Test
Just completed this test as prerequisite to the Master course that i've enrolled. It's not as simple as what my friend told me. But pretty fun and challenging. Just like IQ test but with additional theoritical questions.
Been aged for such test as my real IQ test (exclude facebook's IQ apps) is done during my secondary school. However i have 80% confident level since there are about 10 unsure answers for a total of 50 questions.
The test is divided into 6 sections covering:
- IT Management: focus on project scheduling
- IT Programming: focus on recursive looping
- IT Infrastructure/Technology: focus on security
- Mathematic: focus on algebra formula
- Verbal Meaning: focus on synonym and antonym
- Logical/Deductive Reasoning: focus on pattern
After read the question (given 15 mins reading time), decided to write the answers on the piece of paper before put into answer sheet. For the unsure answers, just underline the question's number and list down the possible options. That's how i estimate my 80% confident level.
There is one question that left an impression to me. The question is about patterning with the scenario of deciphering an encryption. Here is the illustration of the question (the real question is not as straightforward as this):
- Encryption: xxxyyy xxxzzz yyyzzz
Meaning: abc bcd cde - Encryption: yyyxxx zzzyyy xxxzzz
Meaning: abc def ghi - Encryption: yyyzzz xxyyxx zzzyyx
Meaning: cba bcd acb - Encryption: xxxyyy
Meaning: ??? (in case you are curious, the answer is cde)
First round is completed. Now waiting for the admission interview session. Hope that everything goes smoothly.
UPDATE on 13 Oct 2010: Just got a call to attend the admission interview by next week. Pretty excited about it but that's means that i need to skip my PMP course for half day.
UPDATE on 18 Nov 2010: Received the offer email indicate acceptance of my application for this course. Yippy!
UPDATE on 9 Dec 2010: Done the registration. Now waiting for the start of the course.

Hi,
congratulation for being accepted to this programme. And numerous questions similar to yours have been asked over and over again. Do refer to previous comments and feedback for your questions. Hope that you can get the point. Just one advice: do not always expect good thing in return for the effort/investment that you’ve been put in. You’ll just get disappointment if you keep such mindset.
Thanks

Hi,
I have more than 8 yrs of experience in Software industry
so quite aware of Software processes and very well established with handsome salary of Rs 19 lakhs/annum, some how i always felt that having a PG from a prestigious
University will complete my profile, I am finding cracking into indian IITs quite difficult with my work load and just don’t want to go for any below par institute either in india or abroad
,i found it easy to get an offer from ISS-NUS for MTech(SE Full time), so not very much sure if this MTech commands same demand and reputation as of MTech from IITs or should i look for some other courses like Masters in Computing from NUS or does it really matters to have this kinda of PG
I am a married guy, so will be putting lot of stake in pursuing such course.
I would like to know your perspective in my case

Hi,
I cannot comment about how prestige MTech from ISS compare to MTech from IIT. In Singapore, both the MTech or MComp from NUS is pretty reputable. The difference is the method and number of modules. MComp is more on theoritical and having less modules to study than MTech. If you love to challenge yourself, you are welcome to try MTech so you can find out how tough it is.
However for your case, do give a good thought and compare the pro and cons before making any decision.
Don’t know how many time i said this words but will still give the same words to you: MTech give you better chance competing with other but does not guarantee better prospect!
Good luck and all the best!
